My my… It seems that when I was away on business, the other “tabloid” blogs decided to go on a hiatus too. I didn’t know that I was such a great influence to them.
A few questions here. It would be very helpful if someone could help clear this up. I haven’t been reading blogs since I was stationed overseas.
- What has happened to Ping.sg? The quality of blog posts has went down as compared to a few months back. Is scandals and sex the in-thing right now? If so, there’s hope for Work Whore!
- And seriously Dawn Yang plagiarised? And she’s still in STOMP? What’s going on?
- So what happened to the XX vs DY fiasco?
- And the Ping.sg In or Out nonsense?
- What’s with the winners of Omy’s little awards? I don’t see any familiar names.
- Has the battle between the food podcasts died?
Work Whore is in dire need of some good gossip.

Right after my previous post, my paymaster decided to send me overseas to supervise some company dealings. I was given only a day to get ready for my trip and I’m still overseas. It doesn’t help that my other co-writers (an introduction about them soon) are too busy too.
Updates soon. I am so kicking myself for being too busy to update on all of the juicy gossips that has been happening in the blogosphere.

I posted a rather insightful entry regarding the PR industry in my previous and there wasn’t any comments at all whereas entries regarding scandals on Jean, Podfire vs Blogger’s Treat and blog advertising networks warranted many comments.
I think it’s sad. Some of you guys think that scandals are horrible and how there shouldn’t be anonymous bloggers writing about these scandals and adding their pathetic 2 cents. You guys just can’t help it can you?
It’s like that car accident that happened that you just can’t help but watch the gore and take pictures of it even though you shouldn’t.
Well, if this is what the blogosphere wants, this is what you’ll get.
So what would you like to hear next?
- The competition between the food podcasts?
- Omy’s little blog awards?
- Dawn Yang vs Xiaxue catfight?
- Ping.sg’s In or Out scandal
So much to do and so little time.
I always aim to please so let me know what you’ll like to hear next on Work Whore.
Work Whore is up for Most Dramatic Post! Please vote for me.

While the PR industry looks glamorous to those not sitting on the other side of the fence, it really is a crock of shit when you start crossing over. Let’s talk about the lies that permeate the industry. You’re told on your first day (or in your school) that lying is a really bad thing in the PR industry, and that no matter what you do, you shouldn’t lie. You even advise your clients not to lie to the media, especially when it can look bad if the truth comes out.
Of course, the PR industry is there to help “spin” the truth, so while technically not lying, you aren’t technically telling the truth either. A good product (or a bad one) can turn into wonderful product through spin. We all know it’s a crock of turd, but the client insists on making it sound good, so we turn it around, look at it at another angle, and tell the media:
“Hey, look at the good things!”
And also give wonderful doorgifts so that they tend not to ask irritating questions that we rather not face. Sometimes, a sharp reporter will ask questions that will make us squirm, but more often than not, they’ll ask friendly questions that help seal the deal. After all, we’re all in the game together, no?
So bloggers remember, if the door gift looks too good to be true, pay attention to what’s not said instead. You’ll be better off in the long run.

I doubt that everyone would be able to earn much money from the blog advertising networks in Singapore since most bloggers do have a paltry number of readers unlike the top bloggers in Singapore who probably have tens of thousands readers. I’ve read numerous complains over Nuffnang and Advertlets and I decided that Work Whore will not be one of their victims. Instead I’ve decided to try PayPerPost instead. It sounds fairly simple. Grab an opportunity and share your thoughts on the subject.
Have any other bloggers tried PayPerPost? Could I have some feedback please? I’ve signed up to try to earn some money through blogging and if I manage to do so, I’ll purchase my own domain and hosting. I remember some blogs some time ago and some of them were talking about how much they earn through PayPerPost and other reviews sites. Is it true that you can earn up to thousands through blogging?
If so, then isn’t everyone jumping onto other advertising means? Isn’t it ‘the more the merrier’? Or is there a hidden “code of honour” that bloggers have to remain “faithful” to one blog advertising network?
Well at least for me, I’ll be trying out payperpost first and if my readers do grow to quite a significant number that I’ll be able to earn more than a dollar a week through the blog advertising networks in Singapore, perhaps I’ll give Nuffnang and Advertlets a try? And maybe by then I might have to eat my words.
Tell me something. Why isn’t anyone talking about PayPerPost? Just writing this entry would have earned me an easy twenty bucks. Doesn’t that pay more than a one buck per week banner? Why isn’t anyone making the jump?

Oh look, another scandal. This time with all the juicy details revealed by the press no less.
I’m sure most of you by now would have heard of the Jean scandal. Going to Seoul, getting allegedly molested, then crying on her blog while posting the guy’s details (She has since removed the details). But it’s not the first time she was ‘molested’. So, justice should be served, the guy should be arrested, caned, whipped, publicly humilated.
But wait! There’s more!
Who would have thought though, that Jean wasn’t so simple (get it?) after all? The NewPaper managed to get hold of the guy in question and has since gotten his side of the story. He’s been courting her for two years while all the time she’s been denying it (and looking for a financially stable guy on her blog. Who would have thought?).
But folks! The best is yet to come!
He lent her $48,000 dollars and now he wants it back. She says it’s a gift, and if you are of the warped mind to believe $48,000 is a gift to a university student with a huge loan, I have some winning numbers that I can sell you for a special price. So… on our minds now would be some speculation: Did she blow the whole matter up so that he would be too embarrassed to demand the money back? I mean, seriously, can anyone be so stupid as to give someone $48,000 with no strings attached? If such a person exists out there, I have a magic rock that will cure all your illnesses and make you immortal, that’s available for a special price…
So who’s the victim here? No one knows, but we can all sit down behind our computers, and wait for the drama to unfold even further.

Just when I thought it was just a boring Friday. No scandals, no catfights, nothing! Boooooring! I was just contemplating on writing some boring techy stuff when I spied some trouble brewing.
So Andrew Peters was miffed that one of his commercial blogs was not allowed on Ping.sg. I thought it was rather smooth of Uzyn to actually write a cordial email to Andrew but Andrew wasn’t pleased.
TNS and TMS soon stepped into the picture offering their thoughts. Taking Andrew’s side of course. TNS and TMS. Sounds similiar? I think so too. Since they were so quick to back up Andrew, do you think they are linked with Andrew? Your guess is as good as mine.
Anyway, here’s Work Whore’s thoughts.
I think there is a big difference between commercial blogs and blogs that do have commercials once in a while. Commercial blogs are all about selling their items or products in every damn entry while blogs that do have commercials once in a while are mostly pure entries with some tainted entries once in a while.
I think what Uzyn did was a right move and him emailing Andrew was really smooth. For once, I’m taking a side and it’s pretty obvious whose side I’m on.
Come on Andrew, back down. If you’re not happy, you can always leave Ping.sg. I’m sure those forums like Cozycot, Flowerpod or even HardwareZone would allow some spamming once in a while.
And I think Uzyn’s blog entry about hiring an intern in Ping.sg is well justified. Yes, it might be commercial in a certain extent, but it’s helping Ping.sg isn’t it?
I’m getting bored of this quarrel now. It’s just one-sided to me. The real question is: Do you think TNS is TMS?

One of my favourite Social Media blogs, Unique Frequency asked his readers a burning question:
The Case For & Against Blogging Anonymously: For The Sake Of Sensationalism Or Proper Debate?
I’ll like to state my reasons to why I’ll like to remain anonymous.
- Firstly, I blog about work, matters at work and I do intend to share more information on projects I’m handling in future. If I am not anonymous, my boss would probably be yelling at me any moment now or I’ll be fired in an instant.
- As what Unique Frequency has mentioned, I’ll like to be able to share my thoughts freely, without being judged.
Aside from Unique Frequency, are there anyone else uncomfortable with anonymous bloggers?
I’ve been giving a lot of thoughts over my blog. Initially Work Whore was meant to be a place where I’ll be able to express myself freely about work and other happenings but I got sidetracked after viewing the latest happenings in the blogosphere. I love scandals and I do love expressing my thoughts and opinions about it.
I do hope that I have not caused any distress to anyone over being anonymous.
What would you like to read about on Work Whore? Do share. Like I’ve mentioned earlier, Work Whore thrives on comments.
Have a great weekend folks.

Work Whore loves a scandal. And these blog advertising networks have been nothing but scandalous.
From Blog2U, we had the mini catfight by Blog2u’s Paddy Tan vs Molemole, one of his staff. Or should i say, ex-staff. What’s the big deal over a resignation? The catfight died pretty fast, both (angry) entries were taken down really quickly.
Scandal factor: 2/10. BORING. Just as things were getting exciting, they died quickly. Tease!
From Nuffnang, we had the (usual) late payments posts to the recent Nuffnang’s Malaysia CEO, Timothy Tiah sleeping with his staff, Samantha. I do think that people of high positions should watch the way they blog.
Scandal factor: 5/10. It’s been a long time since there’s been any scandals on SG’s CEO Ming. BORING!
From Advertlets, there weren’t any scandals about arguements or sex but more of the usual non payment issues. 6 months of non-payment?! Come on Josh, that’s a tad long even for non-active members! It’s no wonder some bloggers are choosing to drop Advertlets.
Scandal factor: 7/10. What’s the point of having a Blog Ambassador? I don’t know about you guys but I’ve never heard of this guy till I did a search for Advertlets (and one of the previous posts about Contender Asia). What exactly does a Blog Ambassador do? Shouldn’t a Blog Ambassador be the the one to speak up for Advertlets when things seems bad?
Perhaps these Blog Advertising Networks should consider hiring Social Media Strategists as their Blog Ambassadors instead. I bet people like Brian or Daryl would be a better Blog Ambassador instead.
Any other interesting scandals? Do feel free to share them with Work Whore. Do feel free to leave comments. Work Whore lives on comments and scandals.
